Caneland Central, in partnership with Plastic Boutique, is again bringing attention to the beauty and fragility of Mackay’s environment and wildlife – this time with a colourful six-metre installation of over 100 native birds flying among a forest canopy. This project used recycled synthetic fabrics that were donated by locals and over the course of two months, the community came together to help craft every element of the installation, under the guidance of local Artists.

This magnificent Art display will be on show from 14 September – 18 October, near Platypus Shoes.

A special thank you to everyone in the community who supported this project in one way or another. Be it donating fabrics, attending workshops, sharing our posts on Facebook, popping in to have a cuppa and say hello or mailing us your own bird sculptures, we are extremely grateful to each and every one of you. You all helped to make the Plastic Boutique a very special place.

Plastic Boutique thanks the following sponsors for their support:

Caneland Central, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, Artist Collective, Mackay Creatives, Star 101.9, Whitsunday Regional Council, Isaac Regional Council, Crossroad Arts, Artist Studio.

This project was made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, provided through Regional Arts Australia, administered in Queensland by Flying Arts Alliance. This project is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
