Sustainability

Caneland Central and Lend Lease Retail are committed to delivering a sustainable future for all our stakeholders.

We recognise the legacy of our activities and we are accountable for what we take, what we create and what we leave behind.

In an effort to continually improve Caneland Central’s influence on the local environment, economy and community, Caneland Central is implementing a number of exciting initiatives as part of Lend Lease’s commitment to sustainability.

Completed

Over the last two years the Centre has completed the following sustainability initiatives:

  • LED lighting upgrades in the eastern and western car parks
  • LED lighting upgrade in both the internal common area and external perimeters
  • Solar lighting installation in the eastern and western car parks
  • Upgraded push taps in the amenities blocks (resulting in less water use)
  • Water use monitoring via Mackay Regional Council’s myH2O portal system
  • Upgrade to Building Management System (BMS) Software which allows us to achieve greater energy use control across the Centre

In Progress

The following initiatives are currently in progress:

  • Water Harvesting Upgrade (for use in latrines and gardens to save on potable water from Mackay Regional Council)
  • Additional LED lighting upgrades throughout the Centre and external car parks
  • Dock recycling initiatives including investigating Organic Waste Separation options

NABERS Ratings

NABERS, the National Australian Built Environment Rating System, is an initiative by the government of Australia to measure and compare the environmental performance of Australian buildings and tenancies.

Caneland Central is currently achieving our target NABERS rating in the following categories.

Energy Rating

Our target is 4.0 stars; we are achieving 4.5 stars

Water Efficiency Rating

Our target is 3.5 stars; we are achieving 4 stars

Waste Recycling Rating

Our target is 30%; we are achieving 31%

Caneland Central will be going through another NABERS rating in March 2018.
